Let's get it started

Many times when I am reading a book, I wish my friends were reading the same thing and were here to talk about it with me.  Since the days of sitting around the kitchen table or hanging out on the stoop are gone, we need a new forum.  I want to hear about the good books I should read and then read them together.  I want a book club.  I think.

I've never been in a book club, and I almost always forget what I've read as soon as I'm finished.  So, I'm not sure how traditional this book club will be.  I'm also not sure how good I'll be at joining the kinds of discussions I imagine happen at "real" book clubs.

So here's what I'm thinking, let's pretend that we just opened a box of wine and we're hanging out on the stoop.  We can talk about the book, characters, or author in any way we want.  Let's start out by choosing a book a month and see how it goes.  If you are too busy that month, don't sweat it.  If the book isn't interesting to you, then skip it.  If you've already read it, read it again if you feel like it or act all-knowing right off the bat if you don't.

Here's how it will work:
1. If you have a question you'd like to ask the group, send it to me in email.  I'll add it to the site, then everyone is welcome to add their comments.
2. You can subscribe to the blog which means that you'll receive an email each time a new entry has been added.
3. You can also subscribe to a single entry which means that you'll receive an email each time a comment has been added to that particular entry.

Since we don't have to limit our book club membership based on how many folding chairs you have at your house, feel free to invite your friends to join the club.  Just send them a link to the site and they can join in the discussion.

So open your box of wine (or pour a cup of coffee or mix a drink or just sit there and be thirsty) and take some time to enjoy a good book and discussion with friends.

OK, but one thing is CLEARLY missing. With each book I think you need a box of wine suggestion. So I will start - Try the Target Half Cab Half Shiraz Red Wine in a Box. Check the newer Target stores in your area, and nuzzle that while you read your stories. Yes?

Not only do they have wine but it is pretty good! My girlfriend sent me some high and mighty email joking about what Walmart would name their wine if they had wine (my favorite was Nasti Spumante), but I will say Target has it all figured out. A couple bucks a box, right next to the diapers, and the cleaning supplies (my life sucks I need some wine! Hey look! Wine!)- Heck, the book Jennie wants is called Trash - I am not above being called Wine Trash.

Hi, I'm game too. Sounds like fun. Unfortunately my Target does not carry wine, but being in Nevada its not too hard to rustle up a drink anytime of the day, night, week. Is there a time when we are expected to have finished the book? And who chooses next time?

This sounds great - I'm in! Though my day job may suffer since I tend to stay up until 3 AM reading when I hit a good book. That is why I don't read as much as I would like. Good thing Ryan is a sound sleeper! And the closest Target is an hour away so I may have to stick to Miller Lite as my beverage of choice, but the Box of Miller Lite Book Club just doesn't have the same ring.
