Recommended Reading: September 2006

Read anything good this month, other than this month's selection, of course?  List it here.  Others may not have the time to read multiple books this month, but it's always good to have a list just in case.  Any genre is fine.  Please include the title, author's name, and a brief description of the book and why you enjoyed it.

And mom, don't be discouraged if you're the only one listing books in this section.  I'm pretty sure you're the only one who is retired and goes on vacation at least once a month, providing you with ample reading time.  We still want to know what you're reading as long as you liked it.  If you continue to be the only contributor to this section, we'll change the name to WWJR (What Would Jane Read?).

THis book is a memoir of her childhood growing up with some extremely eccentric parents. I typically don't like memoir's much because they can be a little heavy on the self-pity, or like reading someone's therapy diary, but this was a very entertaining story.

I just finished a book by Jodi Piccoult, called Vanishing Acts. It is about what happens to a young woman who seems to have it all and then everything as she knows it changes. It's a good one!

BLINDNESS by Jose Saramago was quite good. It is about a city hit by an epidemic of "white blindness" and how the masses struggle to survive. The writing style was very interesting...lacking typical punctuation and format. I read something else by this author and didn't really like it, but I was intrigued with this one.
