Book 13: Final Review

June has come and gone, and unlike the title of our book, it flew by pretty quickly!  If you've already finished Forever, it's time to give it your final review.  How did you like this one?  Did it give you a new perspective on New York or on how you view history?  Did you feel like it took forever to read it?  Tell us what you think.

***** = This was one of the best books I've ever read.
**** = It was a great book, I'd definitely recommend it.
*** = It was pretty good.
** = There were some parts that were OK, but overall not great.
* = Not great.  At all.
0 = Didn't quite get around to this one.

I really liked this book. At first, I had a hard time getting into the groove of the book, but by the time that things started to change in Cormac's life I was deep into the story and characters. I thought that this was a fantastic idea for a book, and enjoyed how history was woven into the fictional tale. I did find myself skipping over the fighting parts of the book, but that's more of a commentary on my bad book-reading behavior than the book itself. I'd recommend this one.

I did read Forever and enjoyed it and have recommended it to others. It did take FOREVER to get into it, but once I did, the detailed writing kind of grew on me. I have never been too interested in history, but personalizing it this way was a great way to lead a reader through the history of New York.
    4- stars

I'm only about 1/2 way through, so I won't rate it. I can't say I'm too crazy about it though. I love the concept, but it seems like too many cheap thrills in the execution. Plus, Cormac is a little too righteous for my taste. Even so, it's good enough that I'm going to stick with it and finish it off. Your recommendations tell me it's gonna get better as it goes on.

I am belatedly commenting on this as it took me FOREVER to read it. I enjoyed it and was annoyed by turns. I did like the history in a prose format, although I thought it would be more meaningful if I was actually more familiar with NY landmarks. I became increasingly annoyed as I reached the end and realized this was another 9/11 tragedy rehash (see cheap thrills above). I would wholeheartedly recommend it to someone who knows and loves NYC.
