Book 15: August 2007

There are some times in this life where I feel like everyone is connected and that if you talk to someone long enough, you'll find you know someone in common, even if that connection is kind of a reach.  In popular culture, this is commonly known as Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon.  This month's book club selection comes to us through a DOUBLE Kevin Bacon - connecting three of our members through an ex-boyfriend, a resort in Minnesota, and a neighborhood in Texas.  I've created a map to illustrate the connection - I'm sure it will clear it up.

Criss-crossing the world and spanning several U.S. States, we find our common thread in an Austin, TX author who has recently released a new book.  Please join Becca, Sevda and me in reading Forgive Me by Amanda Eyre Ward.

Author of the book How to Be Lost (which was fantastic), Amanda Eyre Ward's latest book is described as "gorgeous new novel about love, memory, and motherhood."  She's a talented writer, excelling in moving a story through time and place.  And my highest form of praise for an author - she has terrific characters and writes beautiful sentences.

Put this in your library queue or head to the bookstore, clear your reading slate.  August is for Forgive Me.

For this month's wine pairing, I'm turning to my old friend Cost Plus/World Market where you can find Goats do Roam Red.  Although I haven't had this wine, it's less than $10 and is described as "a wine with attitude" and that's good enough for me.  I do realize that when a wine's variety is called simply "red" that it may not be the kind of wine you really ought to recommend, but I'm going to try it.  After all, it's bound to be a step up from wine in a box.
