I've been hearing from many of you over the past few weeks about the books you've been reading. Some of you are catching up on book club selections from the past year, finding treasures in the books that we've loved along the way. At least three of you (that I know of) are pregnant right now, and I imagine that you're reading guides to pregnancy, learning about everything you need to know in the first year, and pouring over baby name books (the possible exception to this is Jill who is preparing to add her FIFTH child to her family). Many of you are preparing for vacations and are looking for one or two REALLY good books to read during your precious down time.
Let's hear about what you've been reading lately - anything really good? Anything we shouldn't pass up?
Please include the title, author's name, and a brief description of the book, your thoughts and comments.

I just finished reading "Prep" by Curtis Sittenfeld. I thought it was a well-written book, capturing the changing thoughts and actions of a girl as she moves her way through prep school. I found myself thinking several times while reading the book about particularly well written sentences and passages - the author has a talent for choosing perfect words to capture a moment. I'd recommend this one.

The Wild Girl by Jim Fergus (One Thousand White Women) is another historical fiction taking place in the 1930's and introduces the Great Apache Expedition. The story is told through the journal writings of a male this time. I really enjoy Jim Fergus's style of writing and his development of both intersting plots and characters. Although I liked One Thousand White Women better, this one pulls a close second. Read and enjoy...I did!

Attention Janet Evanovich fans...If you need some out loud laughs, pick up Lean Mean Thirteen. Lots of Ranger, Morelli, Grandma, and Stephanie...as well as some new FTAs. I thought this was a good one.

If you haven't got A THOUSAND SPLENDID SUNS by Khaled Hosseini on your reading list, add it. Don't expect to get much else done once you start reading it! The story is extraordinary, leading you through the lives of several women in Afganistan starting in the 1980's. Fantastic writing.
