Book 19: December 2007
For this month's book club selection, I turned to my friend Kim (not to be confused with the Kim who made last month's selection, this is the OTHER Kim in our book club, the one I've known for ten years... and man, that hardly seems possible). She told me that every year she tries to read or re-read a classic. I do this too, and I bet if we took a poll lots of you would tell me that you do the same. Books hold such a special place in our memories - what we were doing when we first read a book, who recommended it to us, how parts of the book or characters come back into our mind. I agreed with her, that this would be a great way to wrap up our 2007 selections. So this month, please join Kim and me in reading (or re-reading) To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee.

Some of you have mentioned this book in your Trifecta profiles, and Jill's new baby shares his middle name with one of the characters. Many of us, if not all, have probably already read this book. But if you're like me, it may have been a long time since the last reading. I don't remember a lot of details about this book (which is not unique since I suffer from Book Amnesia), but I do remember really enjoying it. So, during this last month of the year with all of its holiday busy splendor, join us in a read or re-read.
For me, this month is going to be particularly busy. I know that this book club isn't required, and that we pride ourselves on a certain amount of slackiness (is that even a word?), I still feel an obligation to keep up with things here. You know, like the reading and the posting of entries. Unfortunately, I've been a bit behind lately and looking ahead this month, I can see it's going to get just a bit worse on that front. So, because I'm the book club boss of you, we're going to skip some of the regular features this month and go straight from book announcement (tardy) to final review (early! yay!). When you've finished the book, or if you want to give it your rating from memory, feel free to post it here.
Give this book your final score and tell us what you think:
***** = This was one of the best books I've ever read.
**** = It was a great book, I'd definitely recommend it.
*** = It was pretty good.
** = There were some parts that were OK, but overall not great.
* = Not great. At all.
0 = Didn't quite get around to this one.
