I'm still reading this story and it's taking me longer to get into it than I thought it would. I'm still at the beginning, less than 100 pages, into the story, but I'm having a hard time finding the groove of the author's style. I may set this one aside and pick it up again to see if I can fall into the story at another time.

I'm reading.
I'm reading!
OK. I'm skimming a lot of it. 800+ pages of romantic thriller time travel is a lot. of pages. I always read and cast the movie: Does anyone else see a youngish Susan Sarandon as the young Claire? Of couse, jamie would have been perfect for Mel Gibson years ago. Let's try Ewan McGregor. It's pure romance. Not high fiction. A charming little piece of puffery.

I had it on my nightstand and just never got into it. Today, though, I picked up our next book from the library so will certainly get started over the weekend...right after I finish a very interesting book that I am recommending here (hope this is an appropriate place to do so)- Suite Francaise, by Irene Nemirovsky. It is fanastic!

My daughter Julile recommended this book (and series) numerous times over the years--tried several times, couldn't get into it. This time, though, I enjoyed it. In fact, I am now on book #3 in the series. That's 300 pages. Yipes.

OK: Finished and done. Good Lord if there was ONE MORE impossible challenge or physical situation thrown in, one more flogging and flaying of flesh, one more wild animal-like rutting I'd think I was reading an episode of True Romance Edinburgh Style. It reminded me of the first Lord of the Rings movie where the characters met one crazy monster after another and one unsurmountable geographic challenge after another. I swore, enough already! What more could happen?

I JUST finished reading it last week! Although I didn't really get into it during my first run, I enjoyed it the second time through.
I disagree with Mrs. McInerny on the casting. I think Jamie should be played by McSteamy from Grey's Anatomy.
